A recent report from Oryx, an open-source intelligence (OSINT) project, says the Russian Federation has suffered substantial equipment losses, including main battle tanks.
According to the statement, this includes the loss of nearly half or close to two thousand tanks that were in operational condition since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.
The report is based on the collected visual evidence.
According to Oryx, they were able to verify at least 1,000 distinct units destroyed in battles. 544 units have been captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 79 were heavily damaged, and 65 were abandoned.
Additionally, there are some additional destroyed vehicles that Oryx could not confirm based on existing visual material.
Experts from this open-source intelligence group estimate that Russia had about 3,000 operational tanks at the start of the invasion.
