Rheinmetall is about to churn out new batches of 35-mm ammunition for the air defense systems, including Gepard and Oerlikon GDF. Gepards are in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, so this is particularly good news for the defenders of this country.

The funds for this purpose have been allocated by the German Ministry of Defense.
Previously, Switzerland was seen as a potential source of ammo for this particular model of self-propelled anti-aircraft gun for Ukraine. It may still become an additional source of munitions and military equipment in general, but the legal system of this country does not permit exporting weapons for direct military purposes, and also re-exporting them to zones of military conflicts due to its aim to maintain military neutrality.
“We will quickly start our own ammunition production for Gepard at Rheinmetall. I am very glad that we were able to guarantee the supply of this important part of the air defense,” said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with Reuters.
