First Global Summit on Artificial Intelligence Safety will Happen in UK

This fact has been announced by the UK government. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and US President Joe Biden will be among guests in this event, and will also discuss the topic during their meeting.

The summit aims to address the risks associated with artificial intelligence, including the so-called frontier systems, emerging technologies and applications, and explore ways to mitigate these risks through international coordination.

The specific date for the event was not provided.

It is expected that during their meeting, Sunak and Biden will also collaborate on coordinating their strategies regarding critically important and novel technologies, with a focus on strengthening their economic security.

Among other important announcements, Palantir Technologies, a US technology company, will separately introduce its plans to establish its European headquarters for AI development in the UK. Here, the company already has over 800 employees.

The need for the global AI-focused summit comes as regulators across the globe are scrambling to develop rules that govern the use of generative artificial intelligence and machine learning tools. Currently, such platforms can already generate text, images, and even computer code. The impact of this technology is being likened to the transformative nature of the internet.
