This Theoretical Challenge requires only a written proposal.
Overview
Exothermic reactions can be challenging in chemical manufacturing because they require careful temperature control. Exothermic chemical systems that operate using Diels-Alder (D-A) chemistry are of special concern because they are less amenable to safety approaches developed for other exothermic reactions.
Methods to control runaway heat in the D-A system do exist, but they’re ineffective, disruptive, and costly. This Challenge is, therefore, looking for novel, more effective, less costly, and less disruptive safety approaches to control exotherm caused by self-propagating D-A reactions.
Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) on July 17, 2023.
