The Spacetop is the first laptop that doesn’t have a screen.
At first glance, a laptop without a screen could look like a device from Sci-Fi movies. This development has been demonstrated by Sightful, a company producing electronic products. It is quite real and works as intended, and is not any magic.
The news was earlier reported by PC World.
The Sightful company introduced the Spacetop laptop with the aim of further advancing the workplace productivity.
To be precise, the screen in this laptop exists but is fully virtual. As you may have guessed, in order to see this semi-transparent screen in front of you, you need to use special VR glasses. In virtual space, you will also be able to use augmented reality functions, too.
The laptop will allow you to perform your regular tasks, as you need. And quite a lot of them, because all your tasks will probably fit into the 100-inch (254 cm) area that the VR glasses can provide for you, with a 1080p resolution per eye with a refresh rate of 72Hz..
By the way, VR glasses lovers will appreciate that the Spacetop glasses support interpupillary distances (between the pupils of your eyes) in the range from 56mm to 70mm. The developer addressed a very important issue of making this device suitable for the physiques of different persons.
And, the company solved the problem of visually impaired users by using an individual approach. The customer only needs to send the characteristics of his regular glasses and the company will make VR glasses according to the customer’s requirements.
In terms of specifications, the laptop is designed as a business tool with an optimized ARM processor, AOSP (Android Open Source) operating system, and of course special glasses.
The computer has 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of built-in memory, and the most modern wireless modules. You also get a 2560×1920 webcam, which is slightly better than other laptops’ cameras, and a fingerprint scanner. There’s even a pair of 10Gbps USB-C ports with DisplayPort 1.4, so you can hook up an external display if you really need one.
But if you want to get your hands on this $2,000 innovation, then you’ll have to hurry — the company has only released 1,000 units of its Spacetop, and there’s no word on when the next batch will arrive.
